The Government of Gujarat, in a bid to protect Gujarat's unexplored flora, encourage locals to care for their environment and promote Gujarat as an eco-tourist destination, set up a Conference that would exclusively focus on capitalizing on the location and natural advantage of Khijadiya and in the promotion of Tourism by exposing it to renowned National and International Bird Watchers', Ornithologists and other stake holders. The invited presence of Travel Media and Travel Writers furthered the desired momentum and branding, providing the much needed impetus to this Conference.
The location provided a unique ecosystem with twin water reservoirs to migrating and local birds, to augment the setting up of the conference. The conference saw 500 Ornithologists, Travel-writers, Photographers from 45 nations and from across India between 25 - 27 November 2010. A total of 6 sessions including field visits for the guests was organized during these 3 days, with the idea to promote Gujarat as a special bird watching destination.
